The early days of my Linux exploration

I decided to step back in version of Ubuntu and change to Xbuntu.  The alternative is/was to use a different distro; I may do this some day, but time is limited.  I'd really like to find a distro that runs very light, but comes with everything.  I want flash, firefox, java, a great media player, etc. installed by default.  My approach would be to turn everything off when not needed.

My decision to step back is related to a hope that my nvidia drivers will install in a previous version or that Envy will work.

I chose to go to Xbuntu because it uses a different windows manager that may be quicker on this machine.  I've read that 7.04 is great because it doesn't have Gnome dependencies.

I'll probably find a quicker CD-ROM to install with.  This one is 24X.

My hopes are to simply experiment with Compiz, but then change this into a LAMP server; possibly with all the graphics off until needed/wanted.
